The first of a two course sequence of faculty-directed independent research culminating in the writing of a senior thesis and its presentation.

Topic Outline: 

In this course the student, with the guidance of a faculty member, will select a topic for independent study, and begin work on a research project which is to serve as the basis for the senior thesis required in the program for the Bachelor's degree in discrete mathematics. The second course in this sequence will be devoted to the completion and presentation of the senior thesis.
