Academic Professional: The School of Mathematics at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for two Academic Professional positions in mathematics, with anticipated start dates of summer 2017. The role of Academic Professionals is vital to advancing our undergraduate teaching in the School and supporting our educational and training missions through academic administration. Additional details about the work of Academic Professionals in the School is available at: http://www.math.gatech.edu/employment-opportunities. Georgia Tech has recently adapted its academic professional career track in order to promote and reward high performance in this stream. While both positions will be non-tenure-track 12 month appointments, subject to annual evaluation, the School views Academic Professionals as integral to its long-term mission. Therefore it seeks candidates who aspire to excellence and leadership in these areas as described at: http://www.policylibrary.gatech.edu/faculty-handbook/3.2.2-non-tenure-track-academic-faculty-members-hiring-and-promotion-guidelines.  One of the two positions is initially renewable for a period of up to two years.

Academic Professionals in the School of Mathematics have typically been assigned duties from the following:

  • teaching 1-2 courses per semester, including the summer; these courses will usually be selected from our 1000- or 2000-level offerings, and/or from other teaching commitments including pre-calculus, distance learning, and international programs;
  • administrative support for undergraduate teaching, in the form of course coordination, curation of materials, management and oversight of use of technology in courses, and/or support for curriculum improvements;
  • Participation in the School's instructional management team
  • Other duties assigned in alignment with the School's needs and individuals' strengths. These may be selected from the following: administrative support for our graduate programs, related to advising, assessment, recruitment, and professional development; communications and outreach; tracking and collecting data in support of School programs; support for TA and new instructor training; support for curriculum development and use of innovative teaching techniques; advising and administration for student support; integration of technology in courses and administration

This list is likely to evolve together with future needs and priorities of the School of Mathematics and of Georgia Tech.

The successful candidates will have demonstrated excellent teaching credentials, with clear potential for taking on considerable responsibility in teaching, educational leadership, and administrative tasks. Candidates will possess attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work well with faculty, staff, students, as well as the broader university community. Experience with technology in teaching and administration will be considered a plus. Two or more years of experience in a university environment, and a Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field, such as physics or computer science, is required for this position.

Applications should consist of a curriculum vitae, three or more letters of reference that address both teaching accomplishments and administrative ability, and a brief teaching summary that documents teaching experience, interests and abilities. Applications should be submitted directly to https://www.mathjobs.org. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the positions are filled.
