ACCUPLACER Placement Exam - Precalculus & College Algebra
For incoming students whose SAT/ACT scores are below the 620/26 cutoff to take MATH 1551/1553/1554, the 570/24 cutoff to take MATH 1711/1712, or the 530/21 cutoff to take MATH 1113, we are offering the ACCUPLACER exam to attempt to place into those classes. Each student may take the exam only once. Students should bring a laptop or tablet to the exam location to take the ACCUPLACER. Students may not bring any form of a calculator to the ACCUPLACER exam.
Expectations in GT math courses may be different from the level of instruction you received in high school. Preparation and a strong conceptual understanding of the material are required in order to receive a passing grade. If you do not feel as if you have confidently learned the material of the course you are trying to test out of, we recommend that you take the course at GT.

For all Spring 2025 students, exams will be offered in person on Friday 1/3 from 2-4 pm in TBD or online via Meazure Learning for a $28 fee. Students must register by 5 pm on Thursday 1/2.

Optional New Student Placement Mathematics Examinations
These exams are for incoming students only.
Please note that placement exams are representative of final exams administered in our GT mathematics courses. Thus, the expectations may be different from the level of instruction you received in high school. Preparation and a strong conceptual understanding of the material are required in order to receive a passing grade. If you do not feel as if you have confidently learned the material, we recommend that you take the course at GT.
For First Year Semester Abroad Students: Optional First Year Placement exams for MATH 1551 will be offered at 9:00 am on July 10, 2024. The exam will be in-person and will be 2 hours. A student who passes the MATH 1551 Placement Exam will be awarded course credit for MATH 1551 Differential Calculus and the student will be given a prerequisite override for MATH 1552 Integral Calculus. This exam is for incoming first year semester abroad students only. The exam will be in Clough 144.
Students must register by 4:00 pm on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
These exams are for incoming first year students only.
For Summer First Year Students, Fall First Year, and New Transfer Students: Optional New Student Placement exams will allow students to test out of MATH 1551, MATH 1552, MATH 1553, or MATH 1554. The exams will be in-person on Friday August 16, 2024, the Friday before Fall 2024 classes start. The exams will be 2 hours in length. These exams are for incoming students only. A student can take at most one exam in each time slot.
Students must register by 5:00 pm on Wednesday August 14, 2024.

For all placement exams: no additional materials are allowed, including calculators and notes. Bring your BuzzCard and pencils to the exam. The department does not provide review materials for the exams.
Receving a passing mark on one of these placement exams will grant credit for the associated course (e.g. passing the MATH 1551 placement exam grants credit for MATH 1551). This credit does not count toward the 9 credit limit for Advanced Standing Exams, does not count towards your GPA, and does not count towards your total completed hours at GT.
